IV Chan: On the Edge of Passage at SC Gallery
I find it ironic that any exaggerated depiction of genitalia immediately looks like a body horror. But given all the layers of historical and cultural associations — from fertility to desire, from power to shame — it seems almost logical. What is the main purpose of a living organism can become the source of much more complex and complicated emotions in a developed society with social roles and the weight of expectations. I feel that the broken mirrors that are hidden under the colourful patchwork covers have something to do with that.
