The Sovereign Art Foundation (SAF) is pleased to announce the 35 artists shortlisted for The 2025 Sovereign Asian Art Prize, the 21st edition of Asia’s most coveted award in contemporary art. As well as providing artists with international recognition and generous financial prizes, The Prize is an important charitable endeavour, raising substantial funds to support disadvantaged children by selling finalists’ artworks.

View the shortlist and vote for your favourite artist to be crowned Public Vote Prize Winner (closing 28 March). For the first time, Phillips is announced as an official Auction Partner in a collaboration that will leverage the strengths of both organisations to maximise fundraising potential and bring some of Asia’s most exciting artists to the global stage. Finalists’ artworks will be included in Phillips’ New Now: Modern & Contemporary Art and Design sale, taking place on 29 March. Prior to the auction, the artworks will be exhibited at Phillips’ Asia headquarters in Hong Kong’s West Kowloon Cultural District from 21-29 March, coinciding with the city’s highly anticipated Art Week.

The Sovereign Art Foundation at H Queen's

The Sovereign Art Foundation (SAF) announced the 30 artists shortlisted for The 2024 Sovereign Asian Art Prize. This year marks the 20th anniversary of Asia’s most coveted award in contemporary art. As well as providing artists with international recognition, The Prize raises substantial funds to support SAF’s Make It Better (MIB) programme, which has been providing expressive arts workshops for children living in Hong Kong’s most disadvantaged communities since 2013.

The finalist artworks were shortlisted from 362 entries by 171 artists, nominated into The Prize by 55 independent professionals. The finalists themselves hail from 15 countries and regions across Asia-Pacific, with Hong Kong being the most strongly represented with 9 artists shortlisted. Nearly two-thirds of the shortlisted artists are women, a first for the Prize. The full list of finalists can be viewed overleaf or by clicking here. Notable Prize alumni include Etsu Egami, Rashid Rana, Lindy Lee, Yang Yongliang, Adrian Wong, Chow Chun Fai, Qi Zhilong, Stephen Wong, Alvin Ong, Rithika Merchant, and Alex Seton.

The 30 finalists’ artworks will be shown and can be voted on, both in person and online, during a free public exhibition at H Queen's in Central from 8-16 May 2024. Younger visitors can explore the exhibition's key themes with a special self-guided activity, developed by SAF’s experienced art therapists and programme facilitators to promote family bonding and self-discovery through art.

The Sovereign Art Foundation (SAF) today announces the 30 artists shortlisted for The 2023 Sovereign Asian Art Prize, the 19th edition of Asia’s most coveted award in contemporary art. As well as providing artists with international recognition and generous financial prizes, The Prize is an important charitable endeavour, raising substantial funds to support disadvantaged children by auctioning finalists’ artworks.

The 30 finalists’ artworks will be shown and can be voted on in a free public exhibition at 9/F, H Queen's, 80 Queen's Road Central, Central, Hong Kong from 10-18 May 2023. Younger visitors can explore the exhibition's key themes with a special self-guided activity, developed by SAF’s experienced art therapists and programme facilitators to promote family bonding and self-discovery through art.

Selected artworks are offered for purchase at the exhibition at a fixed price on a first-come-first-served basis. The remaining works, except the Grand Prize winner, will be auctioned at a Gala Dinner at the Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong on 19 May 2023, with proceeds split evenly between the artists and SAF’s charity programmes. Absentee bids and artwork votes can also be placed through SAF’s website.

This site-specific exhibition starts here at The Verandah foyer and takes guests on a journey around the hotel’s 1st Floor to explore the magnificent works by past winners of The Sovereign Asian Art Prize.

The Sovereign Asian Art Prize was launched in 2003 to increase the international exposure of artists in the region, whilst raising funds for programmes that support disadvantaged children using expressive arts. Held annually, The Prize is now recognised as the most established and prestigious annual art award in Asia-Pacific.

Year of the Pig Exhibition And Charity Auction

In February 2019, the Chinese calendar entered the year of the pig. In celebration, local charity The Sovereign Art Foundation (SAF) launched the Year of the Pig, a public art project and fundraising initiative that brings a citywide line-up of painted pig sculptures to Hong Kong.

All pigs and artworks are for sale and proceeds will go, without deduction, to the Make It Better programme, which supports children from low-income families and with special educational needs by offering them empowering learning activities reinforced by expressive arts. The programme currently runs 33 weekly workshops across Hong Kong.

All visitors are encouraged to bid generously and take home their very own pig. Event is free, please register.
