Christie’s Hong Kong is delighted to announce its first live auctions of 2025, set to take place on 28 and 29 March at The Henderson. These auctions will showcase an exquisite collection of 20th/21st Century Art, kicking off the year-round sales calendar in 2025. For the first time ever, the Hong Kong Spring Sales will coincide with Hong Kong Art Month, and will certainly convene collectors from around the globe.

The auction series features remarkable works by modern and contemporary art masters. The 20th/21st Evening Sale will highlight remarkable works by legendary surrealist René Magritte and renowned contemporary artist Liu Ye, following an exclusive exhibition co-hosted by Christie’s at High Peak last April. This exhibition brought together iconic works by Liu Ye alongside several significant pieces by Magritte, aligning with the centennial celebration of Surrealism. This dynamic intersection of art not only celebrates the transformative power of their visions and contributions to the art world, but also reflects Christie’s ongoing commitment to empowering collectors by providing access to extraordinary works.

1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair is pleased to present the third iteration of 1-54 Presents, a special programme of curated exhibitions, and its first-ever presentation in Asia.

On view at Christie’s Hong Kong from 26 - 30 March 2024, this exhibition curated by Kami Gahiga is a poetic exploration of the rich tapestry of approaches and aesthetic philosophies embedded within contemporary African art. Drawing from Simon Njami‘s observations that the contemporary ‘moves across multiple dimensions, shaped by numerous experiences, sometimes contradictory, refusing confinement within any identity prison’, the exhibition spotlights distinct luminaries who have exhibited their works at previous global editions of the fair this past decade.

Exhibited artists in ‘Coalescent Lights’ include Omar Ba, Ouattara Watts, Ibrahim El-Salahi, Barthélémy Toguo, Wura-Natasha Ogunji, Ibrahim Mahama, Virginia Chihota, Tariku Shiferaw, Tesfaye Urgessa, Joël Andrianomearisoa, Tadesse Mesfin, Youssef Nabil, Abdoulaye Konaté, Sanaa Gateja, Dalila Dalléas Bouzar, Aboudia, Zanele Muholi, Seydou Keïta, Baya, Cheikh Ndiaye, Edson Chagas, Prince Gyasi, Samuel Nnorom, Cornelius Annor, Moffat Takadiwa, Serge Attukwei Clottey and Joana Choumali.

Imagery of Lotuses • Misty Mountains – Ink Art of Louis Mak at Christie's

Join us to explore over forty recent ink paintings by renowned artist Louis Mak in his charity private selling exhibition Imagery of Lotuses • Misty Mountains – Ink Art of Louis Mak.

Born in Shantou, Guangdong province, Mr. Mak has always aspired to pursue a career in art. However, like many people of his generation, the hardships of life in 1960s Hong Kong compelled Mr. Mak to abandon his dreams and enter the business world. After a successful career spanning several decades as an entrepreneur, Mr. Mak retired in 2000 and devoted himself entirely to painting. His experiments with ink are numerous and fascinating, resulting in surprising compositions of lotuses and sunflowers, elements of surrealism, ink lotus works reminiscent of black and white photography, as well as landscapes featuring breathtaking three-dimensional mist and sea of clouds.
