Vivian Ho: I Miss Us at SHOUT Art Hub & Gallery

SHOUT Art Hub & Gallery is pleased to present Hong Kong artist Vivian Ho’s solo exhibition I MISS US from 16 December 2022 to 12 January 2023 at SHOUT Gallery Harbour City, featuring 22 pieces of unseen works from Vivian Ho.

Vivian Ho has created an immersive utopia throughout her artistic journey. She draws inspiration from Hong Kong cultures that she grew up with to bring audiences into her very own universe. After graduating from Wesleyan University with High Honours in Painting, she has been illustrating the world filled with fantastical sceneries of a hybrid between cities and nature. She tastefully creates sensory images that redefine aesthetics and challenges cultural values as she takes us on a visual ride.

The exhibition is Vivian’s venture to explore what “home” is. Home is where one feels in control and properly oriented in space and time. It is not just a place but a kind of loyalty. This loyalty, as Vivian sees it, is almost like a love relationship. When home is no longer predictable and secure, it is like the love relationship going sour.

The 22 illustration works reminisce the sparks and joys in a gone era. An era familiar yet far. The artist knows maybe there is no fixing in this failing relationship, but she’s not ready to let go.

“I miss us more than the ever-growing distance between us.”

WRDSMTH: My Palette at SHOUT Art Hub and Gallery

  • Hong Kong Hong Kong (map)

SHOUT Art Hub and Gallery is delighted to announce the exhibition My Palette 2022, a rare collection of originals by internationally renowned street artist WRDSMTH, runs from today to 3 October 2022, at Hysan Place. Active in the street art community since 2013, WRDSMTH ties together his passions for writing and street art – formerly a published author, screenwriter and advertising copywriter, it has become his second nature with crafting indelible phrases, albeit covering outdoor mural walls, side of buildings, telephone poles or billboards. Living in the current digitalized era, it is tempting to resort to the convenience of typing on a keyboard. The simplicity with using old-fashioned pen and paper to gracefully ink each letter and letting our emotions flow has slowly disintegrated, let alone vintage typewriters have become obsolete. To keep this lost symbol intact, the typewriter has become WRDSMTH’s trademark, using a unique combination of stenciling and wheat-pasting to recreate the image of a sheet of inspirational texts coming out of a typewriter. His word-based craftsmanship, referred to as ‘WRDs’, has inspired and resonated with a lot of people. From Los Angeles to New York, Yokohama, New Zealand, London and Paris, he has made a mark all over the world. Making a fame alongside other influential street artists, his works are instantly recognisable, similar to other street artists, like Invader for his mosaic arcade video game characters, Shepard Fairey for his murals, or Blek le Rat who has been described as the Godfather of stencil art, their works having infiltrated the streets across major cities.

New Order – Age of Consent at Shout Contemporary

SHOUT Contemporary is pleased to present New Order – Age of Consent, an inaugural exhibition to celebrate the gallery’s grand opening in Elements Mall.

The exhibition brings together five artists. Among them, three from Hong Kong: Hung Keung, Kongkee (Kong Hongchuen), and Tse Yimon. And two from Mainland China: Shen Zhenglin and Song Yuanyuan. Each artist responds to the exhibition title via a wide range of different genres, including paintings, digital print with hand embellishments on canvas, limited edition of silkscreen prints and, limited edition of digital prints, digital art and art NFTs.

The exhibition title New Order - Age of Consent comes from an influential 1980’s British electronic music band and one of their popular songs. The band came to prominence in the 80s at the backdrop of the Third Industrialization period when digital technology started to proliferate. In retrospect, we have come a long way. How do we go forward, though, is an open-ended question.
