Yrellag Gallery is delighted to present "Kitschy, kitschy, kitschy", a solo exhibition by Lonely Kidney a.k.a Alistar Huang. Through a series of visually striking designs, the exhibition explores the complex relationship between popular culture and art. Drawing on kitschy and humorous perspectives, Lonely Kidney redefines and reconstructs popular culture in her work, using satire and ridicule to expose the absurdities of real life. The artwork challenges conventional prejudices associated with fine art, embracing "bad taste" while pushing the boundaries of traditional notions of beauty.
Lonely Kidney's collection of fake-ad designs offers a thought-provoking commentary on the overwhelming presence of information that bombards and overloads our minds and senses on a daily basis. By consuming and digesting the thousands of data being put out every day, Lonely Kidney brings into focus the ubiquitous nature of modern media.
The exhibition opening will be held on Saturday 18 May 2023 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, and will remain on view until 31 May 2023. The artist will be present at the opening, and light refreshments will be served.
