Time is a relative concept, not confined to a linear trajectory, but one that encompasses loops and divergences. Video art, emerging in the 1960s and persisting to this day, thrives on the constant innovation of recording and projection equipment, challenging the possibilities of representing objective reality in various forms. “Events” become malleable materials that can be directly appropriated, and the intervals between events can be either disregarded or accentuated through splicing. Reality itself, aided by the artist’s subjective vision, can grow into a new form of reality. The past can endure in the future, and the future can be glimpsed in the present. The emergence of audiovisual media, akin to a fable-teller, echoes the scientific discourse on time.

Flow of Disarray at Mist Gallery

How to intervene due to uncertainty, using misplacement as a point of entry?

When the boundaries between normal and abnormal become blurred, the uncertainty and fluctuation of relationships and positions, the alternation of misplacement, also brings about new choices/perspectives.

This project invites four groups of artists to observe and explore misplacement through interventions in the changing present. From the perspectives of generational shifts, evolving roles, creative media, and how individuals relate to their emotions, history, and power dynamics, the artists understand and interpret misplacement in four non-mainstream independent spaces and bookstores.

Throughout this process of deconstruction and reconstruction, they experience ambiguity, concealment, misplacement, distortion, and opposing positions. By establishing new relationships and divergences, they seek to understand the essence of misplacement and establish new relationships with themselves.

I was never close to Kaufu. My only memory of him was of buses.

‘Kaufu’ is an homage to the bus driver uncle I never really got to know, and the vast collection of bus-related memorabilia he left behind. He passed away at the age of 50. The project began when I was helping my mother clear things from his flat. The meaning of death became tangible. I began to unravel this question through his objects.

Reverb of Sleepwalkers’ Vision

‘They say I remember, I say I don’t remember; they say it never happened, I say I remember it, and I think of it from time to time.’

As the broken sounds reverberate and ring in our ears, are the body memories and emotions of ours fading or getting buried deeper?

Reverb of Sleepwalkers’ Vision inherits from the previous exhibition by Epical Chamber, features remixed moving images, reconducted interviews, and reconstructed installation. These code-like texts and images serve as leads in the search for shared thoughts and feelings, which lie beneath the surface of our society and daily lives.
