Eternal Connections: Metalworks Unveiled By Master Liu Wing Sheung and Fanson Lam at Crafts on Peel

Crafts on Peel is known for its commitment to reviving, reinterpreting and perpetuating traditional crafts in a modern artistic context. “Eternal Connections” is a testament to this mission, as it highlights the profound bond between Master Liu Wing Sheung, a local craftsman who has over 60 years of experience in metal casting, and his apprentice, Fanson Lam, an aspiring sculptor, as well as the seamless integration of artistry and heritage. Hearts & Hands : Crafts Of Hong Kong at Crafts On Peel

Let us celebrate the crafts of Hong Kong,

With beauty and tenacity in every touch;

Let us honor its traditions and culture,

While looking forward to a bright future.

From bamboo to rattan so finely woven,

These crafts will always hold our mysteries;

From wood so deftly carved to neon so brightly lit,

These crafts will always tell our stories.

For these craftsmen have a spirit so strong,

A mind so determined that kept them going for so long,

Making new and reviving traditions against all odds,

Let’s give thanks to these works of Hearts and Hands.

This exhibition is a celebration of the skills and creativity of Hong Kong’s artisans and a reminder of the importance of craftsmanship in preserving our city’s culture and heritage. We hope that it will inspire visitors to revive, reinterpret and perpetuate traditional crafts in their own lives, and to play a part in keeping alive Hong Kong’s rich culture of craftsmanship.

Imagine The ‘Im’possibilities: Bamboo at Crafts on Peel

Bamboo originating from Asia is exquisite in texture and has undergone various processes to create a diversified culture in its craftsmanship. Although the art of bamboo is a traditional craft that lasts for thousands of years, it is an industry which our younger generations seldom pursue and let alone inherit. In the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong, constant innovations of contemporary materiality come and go in a fleeting state. Bamboo, however, occupies a unique position by sustaining the livelihood of Hong Kong in the early days, pushing through difficult times with the city. Up till today, bamboo is not only commonly used in our daily lives, but has become a skillful handicraft, leaving an imprint to signify our era.
