Exhibition “Dancing in Darkness” by Gary Simmons at Simon Lee Gallery
Using his signature smudged and blurred images, in these new series Gary Simmons is working with grisaille images of light houses and watchtowers — the former symbolizes safety and hope while the latter represents surveillance and oppression.
Acting against erasure, having to refill the gaps and losses is something deeply rooted in black history. I wish we can say “was”, but we all know it’s still the situation.
Exhibition period: 4.07 — 29.08.20
Gallery address: 3/F, Pedder Building, Central
