Lee Du Ploy: Encounters at iisuArt Space

Lee Du Ploy: Encounters at iisuArt Space

iisuArt Space is pleased to present more than 20 paintings by artist Lee Du Ploy for his portraits and a few landscape works.

As an artist, psychologist, therapist and writer, Lee was born in South Africa in 1944 and spent his childhood walking barefoot on that land, throwing himself to the infinite space, blue sky and nature. He studied in Europe when he was young, then worked in many clinics around the world, while finally settled in Hong Kong fifteen years ago.

His love for art is far greater than that of a psychologist, because he gets freedom and happiness from the painting. As Lee said, the characters in his paintings are about all kinds of encounters, some of which are patients he treated in the past. The features in Lee’s work are usually the faces, exaggerated expressions, staring eyes, sharp and impactful colour, even not that pleasant. Artists tell the story behind each character by depicting the hidden emotions, anxiety, fear, uneasiness and other complex emotions. No matter how ordinary people are, they all have colorful souls and vivid lives. The work also inspires the audience to face other side of themselves under the iceberg to explore the subconscious and unknown.

It’s all about encounter, also the reunion.

Li Mingchang: Episode & Reflection at iisuArt Space

Works from Li Mingchang are often inspired by historical events or features, and the absurdity of reality makes him constantly look back on his past feelings, thus transforming them into paintings.

When he was asked if he was looking for anything through painting, he said, "I'm not looking for an ultimate answer or a full stop, sometimes I just want to feel awfully good." This is the unique humor of Li Mingchang.

The words "Zhang” “Hui” present the readability of his work with the people, and we never want to find a specific result. In these ‘Episodes’ and ‘Reflections’, we can pick it up to read through again with the texts behind it intertwined and mingled. It is intriguing enough to ask questions like this.

On February 10th, iisuArt Space will take you to peruse each painting for returning to the historical scene with Li Mingchang, where we must be on site.
