Silent Poetry: French Art Exhibition at Art of Nature Contemporary

The artist evokes the viewers' visual experience and emotions through colours and their relationships. The rhythmic interplay of colours becomes a dynamic silent poetry, intensely captivating the viewers' souls. This exhibition, featuring the works of Cang Yuan, who resides in France, French artist Marc Tanguy and Jean‒Baptiste Née depict both outward and inward poetic expressions.

Marc Tanguy focuses on portraying the poetic essence of nature. He skillfully imbues his depicted landscapes with romanticism, rendering them mysterious, splendid, and liberated from fixed forms. The result is a near-abstract representation, giving birth to fantastical scenery. On the other hand, Cang Yuan turns inward, seeking the poetry of memory and conscious existence. The undulating lines seem to freeze certain entanglements, representing the artist's introspective reevaluation of their own life. Jean‒Baptiste Née was immersed in the depiction of mountains, rain, and snow. The subjects he portrayed always exhibited a subtle poetic quality. Under his brush, mountain ranges and clouds take on a unique vitality, imbued with philosophical significance. Through their artwork, the artists write poems of life itself.

Wu Guanzhen: Heimweh at Art of Nature Contemporary

  • Hong Kong Hong Kong (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Art of Nature Contemporary is delighted to present exhibition by Wu Guanzhen on March 22, 2024. The opening will be on March 22, from 5:00 to 8 PM. The exhibition will be on view to 19 April.

Wu Guanzhen’s solo exhibition 折柳 & Heimweh draws inspiration from the allusion to the Willow Twig Tune in Li Bai’s poem “Hearing a Flute on a Spring Night in Luoyang”, reflecting the contemporary inner homesickness of individuals. It also employs the 17th-century European pathological concept of “homesickness” (heimweh), highlighting the historical changes in the relationship between people and space in the process of modernization.

Wu’s paintings should first be understood as spatial installations, theatrical in nature. They return to the close relationship between painting and architectural elements such as screens and murals that existed before the Song dynasty. In terms of iconography, he draws inspiration from Modernism since Post-Impressionism, and ingeniously incorporates traditional Chinese lacquer craftsmanship and ramie weaving, creating a dual reference to both Eastern and Western, ancient and modern.

The concept of “Rumble” originated from the artist Tang Yinjiu’s own novel A Chair in the Air. “Rumble” (hōng/gwang1) represents both the crashing sound of heavy objects collapsing and the roaring sound of raging fires. To fall and to rise, rising into the air and dissipating into ashes, are not only the norms of life but also the most essential forms of existence. Through “Rumble”, the artist expresses the attitude towards life, which is exhilarating and powerful, uplifting, and decisive.

Chen Jianhua: Deer Bellows, Tribute to Jin Yong at Art of Nature Contemporary Gallery

On the occasion of the commemoration of Mr. Jin Yong in Hong Kong, Art of Nature collaborates with the renowned sculptor Chen Jianhua to express his respect for Mr. Jin Yong through the “Deer Bellows, Tribute to Jin Yong – Chen Jianhua Sculpture Exhibition”. Chen Jianhua is a famous sculptor from Nanjing. His works have been selected several times for China National Art Fund for major art creations on historical themes. He is skilled in interpreting traditional themes with modern sculpture. The Jin Yong sculpture created by him in 2018 is a masterpiece that pays tribute to Mr. Jin Yong.

This exhibition showcases Chen’s “Divine Deer in the East” series of sculptures and the sculpture of Mr. Jin Yong. Mr. Jin Yong devoted his entire life to the world of martial arts fiction, where he pursued his ideals. From “The Legend of the Condor Heroes” and “The Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils” to his final work, “The Deer and the Cauldron”, the struggle for power, the clash of swords, and the pursuit of power and wealth were all depicted through the imagery of the deer, which represents power, prey, desire, and is a hidden symbol throughout all of Jin Yong’s works. In Chen’s “Divine Deer in the East” series, the deer is restored as a spiritual summons, reflecting Mr. Jin Yong’s inner humanistic ideals. At the same time, through the deer’s bellow, the exhibition offers a new perspective to revisit the world of Jin Yong’s martial arts fiction.

Cang Yuan: Awakening of Consciousness at Art of Nature

Art of Nature grandly presents Cang Yuan: Awakening of Consciousness, a solo exhibition showcasing the abstract paintings from the Conscience series created by the French-based artist, Cang Yuan, during the Covid epidemic period. The theme Awakening of Consciousness grew out of the interpretations of the artist himself about his works in letters to friends.

"By finishing the first piece of work of this series, I slowly started to touch the essence of perception, as well as the essence of consciousness."

The latest series of works reveals the connection between the human body, spirit, desire, space, external experience, moral sense, and worldview. As his art is further cut off from realism and nature, he transformed his aesthetic approach from scenic poetry to philosophical and spiritual poetry, rooted solely in the internal experience. Breaking through the ordinary paradigm of abstract art, Cang further amplifies his unique painting language, masters the fusion of colours, and integrates philosophical reflections. Cang's distinct personality and unparalleled painting style will make a long-lasting impression on its audiences.

Art of Nature specially presents A Tale of Two Cities– Youth Art Exhibition at Art of Nature Contemporary Gallery on January 20, 2023. The opening night will be held on the same day, and the exhibition will be on view until February 24, 2023.

The exhibition aims to provoke and present the dialogue between the ten artists encountering similar or different difficulties and doubts in their respective cultures, from Hong Kong and Japan. A Tale of Two Cities is not only about "Hong Kong" and "Japan", but also in the sense of connection and conflict between the individual’s "siege" and "city" in the contemporary era.

History and future, demolition and construction, full and blank, reality and fantasy, and anxiety and healing, these opposing states are constantly confronted and entangled in the progression of cities and the psychological state of its people. Meanwhile, they subtly guide and inspire the artist's creation, in which they explore the triple intercross relationship between self, others, and the city.

  • Hong Kong Hong Kong (map)

Art of Nature grandly presents The Realm Without Shape, an exhibition featuring abstract works by French artist Marc Tanguy and French-based Chinese artists Lam Man Kong and Cang Yuan. Art is inseparable from the spirituality and idea of the artist. Emancipated from the objective world, the artist creates a language that is the closest to his own soul, pursuing the permanent value of art itself and aesthetics.

Marc Tanguy delivers a sense of peace in rhythm and strength through lines, colours, and blocks. He seeks a balance between the changeful world and inner tranquillity in his creation, reflecting his artistic accomplishment. His student Cang Yuan is constantly exploring the integration of Eastern and Western aesthetics. These two concepts continuously collide in his consciousness and inspire him. Vibrant and symphonic colours splash and interweave across his canvases. His work culminates in a state of complexity and fullness. Lam Man Kong conveys the secret and poetry of nature with oil painting that emphasises light and colour. He is like a troubadour, showing keen observation and delicate feelings in his works.

Clement Chan: Jazz Improvisation Through Abstract Shanshui at Art of Nature

Clement Chan: Jazz Improvisation Through Abstract Shanshui at Art of Nature

Art of Nature is delighted to present the solo exhibition “Clement Chan: Jazz Improvisation through Abstract Shanshui”. The exhibition will be on view from 7 Apr to 16 May, at Art of Nature Contemporary Gallery, opening with the VIP preview on 7 Apr and the Opening Reception on 8 Apr, from 5-8 PM.

The returnee artist Clement Chan studied in the United States and Italy, where he obtained a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in fine arts. His art is influenced by Cubism, American Abstract Expressionism and Neo-expressionism. Besides painting, Chan has also been involved in calligraphy, music, modern poetry and philosophy for years. The influence could be traced by the elements from his paintings – unbridled calligraphic brushstrokes, undulating rhythm in music, and perceptual abstraction in poetry. They reflect the artist’s inner sophistication and demonstrate the aesthetic realm beyond image and substance. Chan’s works are constructed to present transcendent purity and dramatic passion and will. The former expresses the essence of human nature and natural state, while the latter gives the works the ever-changing motives. He thus accomplishes the interpolar balance. Meanwhile, he softens the boundaries among the individual, nature, universe, and landscape. Chan’s long-time attainments in arts and his strong desire to paint allow him to create a series of breathtaking works without hesitation.

Group Exhibition “Abstract•Distance” by Art of Nature Gallery

  • Hong Kong Hong Kong (map)

Art of Nature is proud to present “Abstract• Distance”, a group exhibition featuring the works of 3 acclaimed artists: To Lap Shing, Ho Siu Chung and Cang Yuan. Cordially invite you to join us for the VIP Preview on Wednesday, 24th March, 3-8pm and the opening reception on Thursday, 25th March, 5:30pm. The exhibition can be viewed at Exhibition Gallery, 7/F High Block, Hong Kong City Hall until 28th March.

Most individuals would reflexively assure, seek, and repose to their sense of existence due to the drastical change in social environment, especially for those who live in the ever-changing life of Hong Kong. “Distancing” is the best state of mind for artists in a complex and impetuous situation. It is a way to freely switch between life and creation, and a way to express their status of life. Through their works, artists are often able to separate themselves temporarily from daily life, and think about the social circumstances, to express the era and oneself in their unique artistic language. Echoing to the theme, 3 artists coincidentally distance away from both the eastern and western art essence, and space. Exploring the relationship between the oneself and external by art.
